PBIS

What is PBIS?

It is recognized throughout the country as a school-wide positive behavior intervention support program that focuses on those students who are doing the “right thing” and identifies those students who are at-risk and in need of extra support for early intervention.  To find out more, please visit the national website.

Be Safe...Be Respectful...Be Responsible...and Be a Learner.

Highland High School has invested time and energy into promoting a positive school climate by creating a Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) team. One of our team's goals is to encourage students to continue to behave in appropriate ways by providing them with incentives for doing so. On an ongoing basis, students are recognized by staff for exhibiting expected behaviors with individual and group acknowledgements. Faculty and staff are forming positive relationships with students by recognizing those students who exhibit PBIS expectations on a daily basis throughout the school community.

PBIS is a data-driven, best practices, systems changes program which provides clear outcomes that support our students and faculty.  We believe that this positive behavior program will enable all of our students to strive for social competence and successful academic achievements. To ensure a successful program, students and faculty are surveyed during the school year to gain feedback on the program. This information allows the PBIS team to modify the program and make the necessary changes to address any questions or concerns.

Students should be familiar with proper behavior expectations for the hallway, cafeteria, locker rooms, and The Learning Center that clearly state the expected behavior in those areas.

If you have any questions about the program or would like to donate to the high school’s PBIS program, please feel free to email us or call us at (845) 691-1020.

Highland High School Peer Mediation

Our Peer Mediation Program at the High School operates under the philosophy that conflict is an expected and natural part of life.  We, therefore, seek to find peaceful solutions to differences of opinion.  Our student participants believe that young people have the right to try and solve their own problems and be responsible members of their school community.

If you are experiencing a conflict with another person at school, feel free to check in with your guidance counselor at school for further assistance.
